Business Improvement District

Recognized for its remarkable architecture and historic legacy, NoHo was first designated by the Landmarks Preservation Commission of New York City a Historic District on June 23, 1999. Initially, the designation only encompassed the community properties that fell between Mercer Street, Lafayette Street and the west side of Cooper Square, from East Houston Street to Wanamaker Place. These boundaries excluded many neighborhood gems. However, the Commission quickly remedied the omission, and twice in 2003 and 2008, approved two separate extensions that brought Landmark status to the rest of NoHo.
